A little beauty

My family often jokes, that my blog is to deep, always focused on conflict, challenge, and self-reflection.

Today I want to talk about something beautiful.

Last night it snowed in Chicago, our first one of the year. I'm not a huge fan of winter, or snow really, within 8 hours the city becomes a brown mushy wet traffic jammed place. But for a few moments last night, one of the most beautiful sights happen.

The city is covered with a pure white blanket of snow. All the roads, sidewalks, and abandoned lots are covered afresh, there is no dirt, not trash, no filth. The trees are all newly clothed after shedding their leaves a few months before. They are covered head to toe, (root to branches) in white.

As soon as I got home Ashley and I took a walk. Even though its 9:30, things look light from the reflection of the snow, people are standing on their porches looking up, quietly enjoying the evening (The changing of season always bring people out). Older couples walk the streets hand in hand, kids are running around having snowball fights, and even the gang-bangers seem to be having fun, (reverting for a few moments to the kids that they really are.)

Its easy to see the snow fall as just a cover up, making the city like a "white washed tomb", but I disagree, I see it as what the city can be, what it will be when God's Kingdom comes in its fullness. For now its a reminder, beauty lives in the city, and God resides here, in the hearts of His people and His creation.

Picture the following prophetic vision - this is God's plan, this is his Kingdom, and remember we as Kingdom Ambassadors must live like God's Kingdom is a present reality for it is "already but not yet",

Zechariah 8:3-4

" 3 This is what the LORD says: "I will return to Zion and dwell in Jerusalem. Then Jerusalem will be called the City of Truth, and the mountain of the LORD Almighty will be called the Holy Mountain.
4 This is what the LORD Almighty says: "Once again men and women of ripe old age will sit in the streets of Jerusalem, each with cane in hand because of his age. 5 The city streets will be filled with boys and girls playing there."

Anyone else see glimpses of God's Kingdom in creation or in people?
