Middle Name

Thanks for all of your suggestions regarding what I should blog about. Keep them coming!

Ok, so one that I was excited to write about, "what's with the weird middle name!"

Noel Edwin Cisneros Ritter

Edwin - Named after my great uncle Edwin Clemens, one of the most amazing loving men I have ever met. He and his wife Esther were missionaries in Haiti and Mozambique. They worked with churches, but also with helping people build sustainable food sorces. I am honored to live in their legacy sharing the gospel and their lives with others.

Cisneros - I have secretly always wanted to be Latino. I mean when your name is Noel, it gets confused with Noel (the christmas pronounciation) alot. In the city, sometimes its must easier to introduce myself as "Nowell", rather than "Nole".

But in all seriousness. Cisneros comes from Ashley's family line. When we got married we werre deciding what do do with our names the Hyphen I think everyone agrees is simply awkward, and it screams, "We're Femanists!" (Which by the way we are, just not the screaming kind : ))

(Side note, women still make only 60 Cents for every dollar men make for doing the same job, and we think that God calls Christians to face injustice of all kinds. More about that in one-on-one conversations over coffee if you want)

The main reason both Ashley and I added Cisneros to our middle name is to honor and remember the legacy of the Cisneros family as well as the Ritter family. We want our children to see both families as integral to their stories.

Make sense? Or are we weird?

Anyone have opinions on the Hyphen, Double middle names, or feminism (please be nice if you have a negative veiw towards feminists all feminists are not alike!)

Oh my husband, see, now everyone can see that he's more of a feminist than me and that its not my influence on him, but his on me! :) Oh funny, In anycase, I like that you clarified that we're "not the screaming kind" Oh LOL

60 cents on the dollar still?

Let's see your sourcing.

And does it make sense and is it weird?

Yup. Ha.

I'd consider myself a Biblical feminist. I think both men and women have "equal" chances of salvation, so to speak. I think women should be paid the same as men for doing the same job.

BUT, I do think the Lord has laid out specific roles for men and women, neither of which is "less" than the other, only different. :)

Cheers!

My middle name is Mary Catherine. I like it, it a double one.

Um, not a screaming feminist? Wow.
A biblical feminist?

I am just a feminist. I am a manist (what?) too.
I am just for equal treatment of all of us.

Interesting thought: a racist is negative towards race but a feminist is for females. HMMMMMMM....

I like the fact that you added Cisneros to your name. Thats cute. But also respectful that Ashley had to give up her last name in marriage. I love Murphy as my last name and it ends with me and my sister. So I have contemplated how to keep it alive by naming a son Murphy? My not changing my name at all? By finding a man that will change to Murphy? I dont really want to be a hyphen, thats kind of irritating to me. Why should the rest of the world be penalized to remember 2 names because have issues. You know?

You guys are like the cutest little married couple ever.

Well I have to say that none of this offends me. Whether I make more or less than a man doesn't matter to me. If God provides what I need for my life does it matter if I make more than a man? I know there are women out there need to make a decent living to support family, but if we all live within our means than why do we compare wages? I don't know these things have never bothered me maybe it's because I don't think about this that much. Just my thoughts take them as you will:)

I always get so nervous when the word "feminism" comes up on a screen as oppose to in person :) ( ahhh:) I don't know why. I don't mind the word in person. Perhaps because I think its difficult to explain things in type, you know what I mean. I just don't like to debate in type and often that word brings debates up. So I'm glad that we all kept from debating:)
Anyway, yes both of you, all of you had good points.
And Ryan, woops, I used your name? is that bad? As I was saying, Westy, I love that you wrote, "...and is it weird" Lol. Like, maybe its one of those weird sources out there. Because there are a lot of weird sources out there. Some sources say that the world will end tomorrow. So, I like that you asked if it was a "weird" source. Made me laugh
